Who is this for?

For Developers & Architects

As a professional you can test a development against the NPPF's definition of sustainable development in pre-planning stages, to help you and your clients / partners better understand a development's sustainability credentials.

Using the notes fields you might wish to provide evidence supporting your assessment of each statement. At the end of the assessment process you will be able to download a report which contains your results, together with a record of your inputs and notes, by simply adding your details. This kind of report can help you improve your overall performance and the way you communicate a development's sustainability credentials to third parties.

If you would like to use this tool regularly why not set up a free account. In doing this you will be able to get straight to your project lists and access historical reports or records. When using the tool for enterprise fashion and keeping notes we acknowledge that you might want to exit the process and then come back. By registering you will get email links to your last session and be able to have colleagues access a single assessment.

For Planning Officials

The golden thread which runs through the NPPF is that of Sustainable Development. This Scorecard is an innovation of the Sustainable Development Commission; an independent body of industry professionals (both public and private sector) who have come together to form a body whose mission is to crystallise the NPPF's broad guidance into a simple assessment tool.

This allows users to aggregate input from a diverse set of submitted documents into a clear and accessible result, leading to a greater degree of consistency in assessing the contribution of planning submissions to the goal of sustainable development.

For Communities

The Sustainable Development Scorecard is simple, intuitive and free to use. You can assess a development you are considering, make an assessment of a development that effects you or simply try the process from an academic perspective.

We aim to be helpful and inclusive to engage not only professionals in the discussion about sustainability, but also the general public. Planning is a collaborative and public process, one which is designed to be open and transparent. Public commitment to the sustainability agenda is what gives it a heartbeat.
